Although all these have the same "Diesel" name; they are all different strains. Sour Diesel has a very pungent aroma of fuel and citrus. East Coast Sour Diesel is said to be a classic variation of the original East Coast version of Sour Diesel. NYC Diesel is said to have a stronger citrus and grapefruit flavor. The name "Diesel", although it denotes a family of strains that have a very strong fuel-like aromatic character; does not denote that the strains are genetically related. Why Does Sour Diesel Have Such a Pungent Aroma, and Should I Expect a Very Strong Chemical Aroma When I Smell Sour Diesel? A strong fuel/gas/chemical aroma is typical of Sour Diesel's signature aroma. Typically, there will be some level of sour citrus, herbaceous, and earthy flavors present. Depending upon the batch of Sour Diesel you purchase, the fuel/diesel odor may be much stronger in some and milder in others, depending on how strong your nose is. Why Do Sour Diesel Buds Tend to Be More Elongated and Loosely Formed Than Most Other Cannabis Strain Buds? Strong sativa genetics usually result in longer, more airy bud structures. While Sour Diesel typically develops these elongated and loosely packed buds, its exact formation depends heavily on the plant's specific phenotype and unique growing conditions. Consequently, bud development can vary dramatically based on genetic expression and environmental factors. Why Will Some Batches of Sour Diesel Taste Much More Like Gasoline or Diesel While Others May Taste More Like Grapefruit/Citrus/Herbally Earthy? The aroma and taste profiles tend to vary slightly from one batch to another due to the influence of the phenotype of each plant, growing environment, plant maturity at harvest time, drying procedure and storage method. Therefore, one batch of Sour Diesel may emphasize the gasolene/diesel aromatics whereas another may favor sour citrus/herbal/earthy flavors. Will Sour Diesel Make Me Hungry? While a few people say they get hungry when using Sour Diesel, increased hunger is not considered one of its main effects. Many people don't feel differently about food than usual when using Sour Diesel. Increased hunger is highly dependent on who uses the drug and possibly how much is used. Will the High Feel Immediate With Sour Diesel or Will It Develop Over Time? Many people say that they feel the high immediately when using Sour Diesel, but they go on to explain that the sensation builds over time and becomes more intense before leveling off into a consistent high. ![cannabis](/wp-content/themes/weed/images/text-leaf-top.png) ![cannabis](/wp-content/themes/weed/images/text-leaves-bottom-category.png) ## Sour Diesel Strain: The Legendary Standard of Diesel Genetics If you are familiar with the US East Coast cannabis scene then you have undoubtedly heard about or smoked some form of the legendary Sour Diesel Strain (also referred to as Sour D). When you first open up your flower you will be greeted by a pungent mixture of chemical gas, sour citrus and a bit of earthy herbal and pepper flavors. In addition, all these flavors describe the Sour Diesel as having diesel, chemical and skunk flavored notes. Myrcene provides much of the earthy and herbal flavor, while limonene gives it a more sharp citrus taste and beta caryophyllene brings a peppery spiced quality. When you break apart your bud it tends to become quite pungent. “Sour Diesel is not shy about being sweet…it is defined by the harshness of diesel fuel, sour citrus and an earthy herbal finish.” ### Effects and Therapeutic Uses In general consumers describe Sour Diesel as a quick acting Sativa style strain that provides a mental stimulation rather than providing a lot of physical relaxation.
